Nopal Cactus (Prickly Pear) Contains Methionine (Essential Amino Acid)

(*) See References and Disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Nopal cactus (prickly pear) contains methionine, an essential amino acid(1*). Methionine helps to break down fat in the body and keep arteries clear of blockages(2*). Methionine is a sulfurous compound - a strong antioxidant - that neutralizes free radicals(3*). Moreover, this amino acid helps to detoxify the liver(4*), (5*).

Methionine also helps to regulate metabolism and helps to 'feed' the brain(6*). A reduction of Methionine in the body can result in a host of disorders such as atherosclerosis, chemical allergies, hair loss, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, pancreatitis, Parkinson’s, rheumatic fever, and urinary problems(7*).
