Nopal Cactus (Prickly Pear) Contains Isoleucine (Essential Amino Acid)

(*) See References and Disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

In the hemoglobin's formation, the compound isoleucine partners with leucine to manufacture vital biochemical components which are used for energy production, maintaining alertness and stimulation of the upper brain(1*). Isoleucine is metabolized in muscle tissue(2*). It is also needed for regulating and stabilizing energy and blood sugar levels and for the hemoglobin's formation(3*). A lack of Isoleucine in the body results in the symptoms of hypoglycemia(4*).

Both muscle building and aerobic exercise training heighten the required protein level of the body for various reasons. During aerobic activity, the body uses amino acids especially (valine, isoleucine, and leucine - amino acids branch chain) to produce energy and may promote up to 10% of the energy generated while doing extended activities(5*).
