(*) See References and Disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Nopal cactus (prickly pear) contains zinc and is the most common mineral in the human body(1*).

Zinc is involved in many biochemical processes and is needed for the body's cognitive functions, prostaglandin production, production of sperm, fetal development, blood clotting, protein synthesis, proper thyroid function, cell membranes' integrity, bone mineralization, RNA and DNA maintenance, wound healing, tissue repair and growth and taste acuity(2*), (3*), (4*), (5*). This is by no means an exhaustive list and is meant to show you how important this mineral is to your overall health.

Zinc has been linked to lessening the duration of colds although not conclusively(6*). It is also thought that taking zinc may decrease the length and severity of acne breakouts(7*).
